Conflict can become a classroom for respect, listening, self-control and peaceful problem-solving.
Disagreement is not disrespect
Children can hold different views without attacking one another. Teach sentence starters such as “I see it differently because…”
Listen to understand
A child should be able to explain the other person’s view before defending their own. This builds empathy and reduces careless reactions.
Name the shared goal
Friends, siblings and classmates usually share something worth protecting: trust, fairness, safety or finishing a task.
Choose repair over victory
The healthiest outcome is not always proving who was right. It is finding a fair path forward and preserving dignity.
A simple reflection
What is one sentence, routine or response you can change this week? Character education becomes effective when adults model the practice they hope to see.
